Dr. Andrea Stonecipher is a board certified general psychiatrist in private practice. Dr. Stonecipher evaluates and treats outpatients with a variety of psychiatric issues. She sees adults and adolescents over the age of 12. She is currently only taking new patients by therapist referral.
Dr. Stonecipher has experience in a wide variety of psychiatric conditions with special interest in women’s health. She has received training in supportive, cognitive behavioral, brief, and psychodynamic psychotherapy. Dr. Stonecipher also has an interest in complimentary and alternative medicine.
Dr. Stonecipher received her medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. After completion of a transitional internship in 1999, she served as a Medical Officer in an Air Force Family Practice Clinic managing a wide variety of medical problems.
Dr. Stonecipher completed her residency in psychiatry at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. She is now an Assistant Clinical Professor in the SIU Department of Psychiatry involved in the education and mentoring of psychiatrists in training. She teaches the course Introduction to Psychotherapy and was awarded Adjunct Faculty of the Year in 2007.
Dr. Stonecipher is a member of the The American Psychiatric Association, the Illinois State Medical Society, The Sangamon County Medical Society, and the Girl Scouts of America.
